Law School for Journalists
The Law Alumni Chapter will partner with the U of M Journalism Department, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Tennessee and the Memphis Bar Association to host the third annual Law School for Journalists on Saturday, April 26 from 9am – 3pm. The event, Memphis 1968: race, media & the law, will be held at the National Civil Rights Museum. All alumni, friends, journalists, marketing and public relations professionals, attorneys and judges are invited to attend, with 5.5 hours of CLE credit available to attorneys and judges. Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law Reunions
On Saturday, October 20, 2007, the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law Alumni Chapter hosted reunions for the classes of ’62, ’67, ’72, ’77, ’82, ’87, ’92, ’97, ’02 and ’07 at the Memphis Botanic Garden. Graduates from these years, as well as all alumni and friends of the School of Law enjoyed complimentary drinks and hors d’oeuvres and a fun-filled evening with classmates and friends while dancing and singing to Memphis’ finest music!
Annual Judicial Reception
The Law Alumni Chapter hosted its annual Judicial Reception on Monday, November 12 at the home of University of Memphis President Shirley Raines. The event honored Tennessee Supreme Court Justices, members of the Federal, State and Local Judiciary and 2007 graduates of the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law who passed the Bar exam. Attendees enjoyed complimentary appetizers and drinks and the company of nearly 150 alumni, faculty, staff and friends of the School of Law.
Striving for Excellence in the Law Alumni Dinner:
On Saturday, August 18, the Law Alumni Chapter hosted it annual Striving for Excellence in the Law Alumni Dinner at the Holiday Inn, University of Memphis. A record crowd of over 650 graduates and friends of the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law joined in honoring 16 Pillars of Excellence from the Memphis legal community.
The honorees included Irvin Bogatin, James D. Causey, Hon. W. Frank Crawford, Charles M. Crump, Lewis R. Donelson III, Hal A. Gerber, Frank J. Glankler, Jr., Hon. Benjamin L. Hooks, Hon. H.T. Lockard, Frances Grant Loring, James M. Manire, Thomas R. Prewitt, Sr., S. Shepherd Tate, William M. Walsh, Roane Waring, Jr. and Hon. Harry W. Wellford.
The evening was highlighted by a magnificent video tribute to the honorees, without whom the Memphis legal community, the law profession and our country as a whole would have never been the same.
Annual CLE/Redbirds Event:
The Law Chapter hosted its annual CLE/Redbirds event in conjunction with the Memphis Bar Association on Thursday, June 28 at the DoubleTree Hotel and AutoZone Park. Nearly 100 attendees enjoyed an afternoon CLE themed Strategies in Litigating a High-Profile Case: Lessons from the Mary Winkler Trial, followed by a fun-filled evening of Redbirds baseball. The event was a smashing success, and plans are already in the works for next summer.
